YORK County’s Ebeneezer Park in Rock Hill, South Carolina is where we planned a 2-night stay on our way to our childhood hometown of Columbus, Ohio. It is a beautiful park on Lake Wylie.
It became our biggest RV travel hassle yet. YUCH! After spending the first night at Ebeneezer, we planned a day trip to see family in Greenville, SC. However, there was a loud grinding sound coming from the truck’s rear axle. We had the truck flatbed-towed to Shope’s Automotive and were told all of the bearings in the rear axle and differential needed to be replaced. Parts were on order but since it was Friday, the parts wouldn’t be in until Monday afternoon. This precipitated a 5-day daily negotiation with the RV park to find a campsite in a very full campground during the county schools’ Spring Break. What’s more, we had no way to move our trailer, Diggs, with our truck, Tuggs, out of commission.
One bright spot was that our family decided to come to visit us in Rock Hill from Greenville on Sunday. Me’s Aunt Lorie (mother’s sister), her daughter, Carrie, and her husband Rick. They took us out to a delicious brunch at Bob Evans and brought Sloppy Joe’s for dinner. We had a wonderful time catching up.
The other bright spot is that we met some wonderful fellow RV’ers willing to tow our trailer in and out of campsites for us. Thank you, Mitchell, Jim, and Libby! Jim and Libby (Jim’s daughter) would drive around the RV Park every day to see if anyone needed help. Thanks too to Park Rangers Barry & Lauren for finding ways for us to be able to stay in the park 5 extra nights. We did have to dry camp (bivouac) for two days and one night in the boat ramp parking lot. She & Me decided that having no electricity or water in Diggs is not for us.
Shope’s did fix the truck after a frustrating false start due to a faulty bearing. Thanks to owner Jason & mechanic Wes we successfully traveled 200 miles over the Blue Ridge mountains to Brushcreek Falls RV Resort in Princeton, West Virginia with no truck issues. YAY!
Fun fun in SC! Beautiful park!
