Summer Odyssey 2021

Our inaugural coast-to-coast RV trip ended on April 10th as we returned to Ft. Myers, Florida for much needed time with family and to welcome Wrenley Mae into the family on April 29th, our eighth grandchild and fifth granddaughter. Her parents and three brothers were surprised & thrilled as most thought she would be their fourth son. Wren has stolen the hearts of all she meets.

She & Me LOVED being there to help with the transition to a family of six. We loved helping with school pickups, homework, meals, and especially watching the older boys (ages 6 & 8) play baseball on the same team. On several occasions they were both on base at the same time and one or the other would drive the other home for a BRBI (Brother Run Batted In :-). Not only did we celebrate Wren’s birth but we also celebrated Laken’s sixth birthday.

We also got to spend time with our Palm Coast daughter and husband in their new home. Even more exciting was getting to know their daughter, Callyn (10 months) better. She is a curious explorer, an adventurous eater, has an easy smile, and loves her mommy & daddy.

Unfortunately, It did not work out to visit son & family in Key West due to Coast Guard responsibilities and schedules that did not mesh. We really miss them.

Our first return to Ft. Lauderdale in 2021 was facilitated by Larry and Mara’s hospitality. We were able to see old friends, visit Community Christian Church, and remember why we have loved them all for 28 years.

We enjoyed reconnecting with friends, Rich & Nancy, Aunt Lorie, and cousins, Matt, & Trina.

While in Ft. Myers, Diggs returned to Koreshan State Park for the first two weeks and then moved to Bonita Lake RV Resort for a month. Both are recommended RV destinations.

Diggs gave us a scare recently during a routine wheel bearing repacking. The technician removed the right rear brake drum and all of the brake parts fell out onto the ground! There is no telling how long we ran on three brakes instead of all four. All of the brake parts and the drum had to be replaced. $1,300 later we’re back in business. Word to wise RV owners… make sure you do your routine maintenance!

We said good-bye to our family and struck out on our summer odyssey on May 24th. Are we going to be near you? If so, we’d love to see you.

Mike and I loved seeing you and hearing about your RV adventures. Hope the second chapter goes even more smoothly than the first. Watch out for the circadas, although I hear they taste like chicken 🐓

Mike & Jan, it was so great to see you in Ft. Lauderdale. So far the cicadas have been more prevalent in Cincinnati than Columbus.

  2. Dave Myers

The summer odyssey up north looks exciting. Great photos of family and friends.

Dave and Linda, Thanks for the delicious lunch in Cincinnati! We are looking forward to seeing you again in September. Possible Cincinnati Reds game 🙂

So very thankful for the time we were able to spend together! We will never be able to thank you enough for being here as we prepared for Wrenley (remember when I had you change around all the area rugs in the house at 10:30 at night?!) and welcomed her into our family. The boys are still asking each day if you’re coming over. Can’t wait until we are together again. Love you!!

Kari, we miss you and the boys, not to mention Wrenley SO MUCH!

Hey, Cuz! Let us know your thoughts on Clinton and Corinth as we have reservations there in September.

    1. Kent

Deanna, Our time in Corinth & Clinton were a blast! In Clinton be sure and see the Museum of Appalachia just a mile from the campground. Convenient to Knoxville, but we did not go into town. In Corinth (Williamstown), the Ark Experience is a must-see! If you like to read in exhibits and attend shows, plan on the whole day, but we saw quite a long in about 4 hours. They have a great zoo, a restaurant, informative talks, a gospel show, and so much more. Beautiful grounds. It will likely be very crowded this summer. Consider going on a weekday to minimize crowds. About $40 per person for entry. The KOA in Clinton was typical KOA. Great facilities, camping spots were adequate, but right next to each other. Fairly close to I-75 but we did not hear any road noise. Three Springs Campground was quite beautiful. Somewhat remote with narrow roads leading in, but worth the drive. Wooded with a creek running through the middle.

Thank you! A wealth of info. Just saw George and Cathy last week for a few munutes. Looking forward to our September trip. Stay safe,
    Deanna
