Ta-ta to Texas

After 877 miles traversing Texas on I-10, we finally left the state yesterday afternoon. With enjoyable multi-day stops in Houston and San Antonio, our last overnight stop in Texas was at Fort Stockton. Most enjoyable was the ability to have dinner at the Roadrunner Cafe which was located right on the RV Resort site. Me enjoyed chicken-fried steak and She had chicken strips. Not particularly exciting food, but tasty and a welcome respite after a long day of driving in the rain. We drove to Historic Fort Stockton but were not impressed except by the main intersection installed with old west icons and a giant roadrunner mascot.

Our last day of driving in Texas took us through El Paso where north of the city we encountered immense feedlots boasting tens of thousands of heads of cattle and huge tarped hills of manure. Impressive and fragrant 🙂

Note to the Texas Department of Transportation…
If you are not aware, the condition of Interstate I-10 from the Louisiana border to west of San Antonio is poor to dangerous. We see that you are trying because hundreds of miles of that important artery are under construction. Not that they are being worked on, but lanes are closed down. We wish we had a concession for orange barrels and temporary concrete barriers. We are wondering if it would be possible to work on shorter spans of the road at a time rather than extensive choking off 20 to 40-mile stretches of roadway. We plan to return to Florida in the Spring via I-20 and are hoping the conditions are much better.
