About 100 miles south of Jackson is the town of Alpine, Wyoming situated near the Idaho state line on the Snake River. Upon arrival, we encountered one of the most unusual pop-up markets we/ve seen on our travels… Antler Rendezvous. Not sure if the sign indicates a refusal to look up the correct spelling or a lack of needed lettering.
There were buffalo skulls, animal pelts, antlers from elks, moose, and deer, as well as mounted animal trophies of all kinds. It appears a bit macabre and illegal, but the trophies are legally hunted, the buffalo skulls are culled from domestic herds to maintain the optimum population, and the antlers are shed every year by the elks, moose, and deer. Nonetheless, it was a weird swap shop 🙂
We enjoyed a delicious meal at the celebrated Flying Saddle Restaurant.
The mountain weather this time of year was unpredictable and we experienced our second hail storm.
After some worrisome moments of rain, wind, and hail we were rewarded by this bright, full rainbow just across the river from our campground.
