A fun day trip from Phoenix is the town of Wickenburg. Only 35 miles from our RV Resort, it is named after Henry Wickenburg who discovered the nearby Vulture gold mine.
Wickenburg boasts the Desert Caballeros Western Museum which is well worth the visit containing western art paintings and bronze sculptures as well as a “basement” with life-size recreations of 1800s western life.
Throughout Wickenburg there are statues and sculptures depicting moments and people who made Wickenburg history…
Lunch at Anita’s Cocina is highly recommended! Best green tamale Me has ever tasted!
12 miles outside of town is the Vulture City Ghost Town, the most prolific gold mine in Arizona.
We visited the refurbished buildings, peered down a 170-foot vertical mine shaft, bellied up to the saloon bar, and stood under the Hanging Tree where allegedly 18 thieves met their fate.
The drive up and back was a beautiful display of mountains, desert, saguaro cacti and sun. A most enjoyable day!
Looks like fun!

Love this post! Will have to check this out one day!
Scott, I highly recommend it. Great family outing.
I have been watching videos on YouTube about the old mines and mining towns in the west and Canada. Very interesting and a hard life. Working in dark and dangers for precious metals to cash in on. This is part on what America has been built on. Thank you for the updates and I glad for the both of you enjoying your venture! Blessings! Rene
Rene, great to hear from you and glad you are able to follow our adventures. Hopefully we’ll get to see you this fall or winter. We plan to hop between many of the Florida State parks staring in November. We’ll spend this summer in Ohio & Michigan.
