Located about one hour east of Rapid City, Badlands National Park is 244,300 acres of sedimentary rock formations carved by water and wind. Elevations in the park range from 2,300 to 3,300 feet above sea level. They say it is still eroding at a rate of one inch per year.
On the way into the park, we enjoyed our first encounter with the adorable, ubiquitous prairie dog…
The main paved road through the park is only about 14 miles long but takes several hours to see as there are incredible vistas and photo opportunities throughout. Enjoy our photos of this desolate and beautiful place.
