South Dakota – Sioux Falls –> Presho

Upon leaving Iowa we headed north then west through southern Minnesota on Interstate 90. Sioux Falls was our first stop in the Dakotas. We camped at a KOA. KOA campgrounds are usually a little more expensive than independent campgrounds, but are fairly consistently level, clean, offer full hookups (water, electric, & sewer), and usually have sites available. Downtown Sioux Falls actually has “Sioux Falls”. The Big Sioux River flows over beautiful pinkish quartzite stone. It’s a very popular park for locals and tourists alike.

We wanted to make sure we tried the South Dakota speciatly called “chislic”. It’s basically grilled, cubed meat (beef, bison, lamb, venison, fish or chicken) served with rice, veggies, and a tasty sauce. It took 45 minutes to be served at Urban Chislic (Menu) but it was worth it. Me had beef with Korean sweet chili sauce. YUM!

Leaving Sioux Falls we headed to our stop halfway across the state, Presho. On the way we couldn’t miss the iconic Corn Palace in Mitchell. It is a regional venue characterized by giant mozaics inside and out made of corn cobs!

Back on the road we came to a beautiful rest area on the South Dakota plains at Chamberlin overlooking the Missouri River valley. “Dignity of Earth and Sky” is a 50′ metal and glass sculpture that is a tribute to the native Lakota and Dakota people.

Finally arrived at the town of Presho (population 472). Very beautiful campground.

Challenge: Can you find the mistakes on the 3 signs that greet RV’ers as they enter the campground?
